SUMMARY:Alaska Endurance Trail Run
DESCRIPTION:The main AETR course consists of a roughly 6 mile loop on the trails of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) West Ridge. This is a world-class Nordic ski area during the winter\, so the trails are well-maintained and reasonably smooth\, with gravel\, grass\, and forest duff surfaces. They pass through heavily forested areas and open fields and meadows\, so there is plenty of variety to keep your interest during the run. There are no road crossings\, other than an occasional gravel maintenance road\, and the only concrete is a short section (maybe 300 feet) along a paved bike path on the east side of the course to get around Ballaine Lake. Even there\, you can run alongside the bike path on gravel or grass. \nNote: The UAF Trails Club does a lot of work to maintain these trails\, and we’re very fortunate they do. If you’re willing\, please support them any way you can! \nThe trails are mildly technical in places\, mainly with roots but also with the occasional fallen branches and trees. Depending on the spring thaw and the amount of rainfall in the weeks leading up to the race\, there can be and often are some soggy areas that you can either pick your way around or plow through. \nNot sure if a race like this\, going around the same loop repeatedly\, is for you? Read In Praise Of Loop Courses on iRunFar.com. This post\, by well-known ultrarunner Andy Jones-Wilkins\, talks about the benefits. As he says\, this kind of race isn’t for everyone\, but it can be a great way to have a fun time while doing amazing distances. \nRead More

SUMMARY:The Break Up Triathlon
DESCRIPTION:2019 brings the eighth anniversary of The Breakup Triathlon. The race was named after Alaska’s spring season when the ice and snow that accumulate throughout the winter months start to melt away. As the ice continues to thaw\, the days become longer\, temperatures grow warmer\, and ice over the rivers begins to give way to the currents of the Chena River and surrounding rivers. The ice breaks up into chunks of all different shapes and sizes and floats lazily downstream. \nThis is the first sprint triathlon of the season for the city of Fairbanks\, Alaska and the only sprint triathlon within a 250 mile radius in the month of May. The Breakup Tri offers a unique experience for the individual who wants to give the sport of triathlon a try without being intimidated or overwhelmed by the number of participants. The race will consist of a 500 yard swim\, 13.1 mile bike\, and 3.1 mile run through and around the beautiful University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.  There is a 99-participant limit and it sells out every year\, so be sure to register early to ensure a spot. \nThe mission of The Breakup Tri is to help introduce the sport of triathlon to those who are looking for a new challenge\, a new way to lose weight\, cross train\, or just want to see what the sport is all about.  An incentive to race The Breakup Tri as a newcomer is that it doesn’t include an open water swim which often deters some participants from ever signing up for a triathlon. \nAnother goal of The Breakup Tri is to help raise money for the University of Alaska Fairbanks varsity athletes.  These athletes will be volunteering their time\, energy\, and positive attitudes to help make this event run as smoothly as possible. \nMore info: https://breakuptri.weebly.com/

SUMMARY:Run As One - Fairbanks\, AK
DESCRIPTION:Sign up: https://donate.teamrwb.org/team/210479 \nFairbanks has a unique opportunity for Run As One! We are going to conduct an awesome ruck march through downtown Fairbanks. Starting and finishing point will be the University of Alaska Fairbanks Community & Technical College\, located at 604 Barnette Street. The scenic route will meander along the beautiful Chena River and include checkpoints at the Morris Thompson Cultural Center\, Fairbanks Veterans Center\, and the final checkpoint will be the Veterans Memorial Park. Saturday will start with the Run As One Run/Walk at 1000. It is a total round trip of 2.6 miles. \nRun As One is a unique engagement opportunity where members of Team Red\, White & Blue\, Team Rubicon\, and The Mission Continues\, along with members of their community and veteran supporters come together for a day of solidarity to showcase how exercise\, community\, and inclusivity combine to combat mental health challenges. Run As One began in 2012\, and continues to showcase the power of unity and physical fitness with remembrance of Clay Hunt\, an original member of Team Rubicon\, who took his own life after battling PTSD and depression. When Clay passed\, we realized we needed to forge a stronger community – both with veterans and civilians. Run As One establishes and renews bonds with our brothers and sisters through physical activity. We know that when we come together and take on a new challenge\, we build stronger bonds. Together\, with our partner organizations and communities\, we will demonstrate the power of relationships and physical activity in facing mental health challenges. So run! Run fast. Run slow. Run as a team. Use today to connect with all of your veteran brothers and sisters while establishing meaningful connections within the community. Appreciate and live the greater meaning of today. We know shared purpose and hard work towards a common goal builds healthier veterans and stronger communities\, so run together\, Run As One!\n#RunAsOne \n  \n  \nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Name *FirstLastEmail *CommentSubmit
