Staying warm and sane during the cold snap!

One great way of staying warm and sane during the winter months is to challenge yourself and your friends and family to a time trial on your indoor bike! All you need is a bike trainer and a bike computer. Set your distance, about 2 miles to start with, and then ride your fastest times.

Here at the store we have a virtual reality bike trainer, that is really fun to race a TT against your friends. Come on in and try your hand at our 2-mile TT. Our virtual reality trainer has life-like characteristics. When you start to ride up a hill, the resistence increases. Shifting gears, like in reality, helps. When you go off course you will feel the sluggishness of riding across the grass or dirt.

But, you really don't need virtual reality to ride your bike. All of our bike trainers come with a great training video to help get you motivated. Or, just do what I do, and put on an up-beat movie in and laugh along while pedaling away!

Going nowhere, fast! Featured Item: Trainers.

Our trainers offer you a way to get some hours of fitness in without leaving the warmth and comfort of your living room. All you do is lock the rear wheel of your bicycle into the trainer, and pedal away. Except you don't get much further than the livingroom.

CycleOps Fluid Squared Trainer

If it's important to you to make every workout count, the Fluid2 trainer is the most valuable weapon you can add to your indoor training arsenal.

CycleOps engineers designed the Fluid 2 to capture real road feel through the use of a 2.75 lb individually precision–balanced flywheel for more momentum and stability of your rear wheel.

They've also adjusted silicone fluid levels for better resistance and improved the position of sealed–cartridge bearings for better inertia and an ultra quiet ride that ensures increased wattage as you increase your speed.

And just like riding outside, simply shift gears to increase or decrease resistance. When you spin your wheels on the Fluid2 it feels like you're actually getting somewhere.

Cycle-Ops Wind Trainer

Riding outside in strong wind is no fun, but creating your own wind is a whole different story. Our Wind trainer has a vortex blade design that generates progressive resistance for an effective workout, whether spinning or climbing is your focus. Simply increase your effort by shifting gears like you would on the road.

CycleOps PVC Rollers

See your fitness-and your bike handling skills-improve when you add CycleOps rollers to your training program. You'll increase your balance, control and ability to ride a straight line, all of which translate to more efficiency, power and technique on the road.

And because you have to pedal 100% of the time to balance your bike, you get an amazing workout, whether you choose to go at an easy spin or a more intense pace.

After a winter on rollers you'll be poised to lead the pack in the spring.

Climbing Block
The climbing block is perfect for a stable, worry-free ride in any rear-mounted trainer. Its unique 3-level design lets you select the level of difficulty. You can stack two blocks to simulate climbing workouts. Thde injection-molded construction is virtually indestructible. Use 2 blocks for 12 different adjustment levels.
CycleOps Bike Thong When getting a workout on the bike indoors, it’s a good idea to protect your bike from dripping sweat, and we have just the thing: Cyclops Bike Thong! The Bike Thong has a terry-cloth triangle to cover your handlebars and top tube of your bike, absorbing the dripping sweat faster than you can say "Lance used one of these, right?". The Bike Thong even has pockets for your remote control, so you don’t have to interrupt your workout to change the channel.

Layering is the key to staying warm outside

The art of layering is a lesson we all need know. Whether you are Alaskan born, or from Outside, staying warm is all the same. Know how to dress for the activity you will be doing.

If you are going to be going slow, you will need heavier outer-layers than if you are going fast. The base and mid-layers are the same. The oter layers are where the differences come in.

No matter what sport or activity yo will be undertaking, stay warm and dry by first donning a base-layer. This is like a Poly Pro material. Such items include the Craft and Swix base-layer tops and pants. These base layers stay warm when wet, and are designed to keep your body dry by wicking away your perspiration. If you are going to be skiing, you wold be advised to get windblock material - your sensitive parts will appreciate it.

Over your base-layer, you will need a mid-layer. This should be a wicking material like the Toko and Pearl Izumi mid-layers. These materials are designed to take the water collected by your base-layer and wick it to the outside of your mid-layer. These are only slightly heaver than the base-layers, but act as an insulater keeping your warmth close to you.

Finally, an outer-layer should be worn over these. The outer-layer needs to be relatively light if you plan on high-pace activity, such as skate or classic ski training and racing. This outer layer has a windproof front, and panels on the front and sides that are breatheable, so you will not overheat and get to hot and wet. Examples of this c,lothing is the Swix outer-jackets, and the Swix Universal pants, and Toko Nordic pants (which are fleecy lined and thicker). During colder temperatures you may want to add another mid-layer.

Your outer-layer should be a lot heavier if you you plan a slower activity, such as walking, backcountry skiing, photography or stargazing.
