We have full suspension mountain bikes and select road bikes as well as all of our running shoes, all clothing and bike trunk packs. That is not to say that summer is over - not by a long shot! The trails are in perfect condition, and after an evening with the Fairbanks Cycle Club's Doug Ride, I am ready to hit the trails with more gusto! Road work is still happening around town, it's summer after all. Please be careful when riding around construction zones.

Team mates wanted for 24 Hours of Moab

If you like to ride hard, play hard and laugh hard then give us a call. A couple of employees at Goldstream Sports are putting together a team for the 24 Hours of Moab. We plan to travel to Utah for the race which is in the second weekend of October, camp out and ride hard for the 24 hours, while also heckling the other teams until they cry. If you are up for the challenge of a 24 hour race, can take the time off work and afford your own airfare and race entry, let us know. Alaska Airlines and partner Delta Airlines fly to Salt Lake City, so use those points that have been racking up. For more race information visit the web site.

Tech Tip: Tires

Last night a fellow rider's well worn tire split along the sidewall. A split like this can ruin your ride, not to mention your fellow rider's as well. Some things to keep with you on a ride are one dollar bills and some energy bars. The energy bars are great, if you need a boost you can eat them, but the wrappers can be the most valuable part of the food. Take the wrapper, fold it over and place it in the tube over the split area. When pumping the tire up the wrapper is firm enough that it should stop the tube from poking out of the tire and flatting. A one dollar bill can do this as well. One hundred dollar bills work even better. Money bills are made tougher than normal paper, and thus withstand a little more stress. This should help you make it back to your car. Once back you can then drive to Goldstream Sports and purchase a new tire and get back out on the trail. Make sure to leave the money in the tire, we always appreciate that!

It's a Trek World

In order to bring you, the bicycle enthusiast, the most up-to-date in technology and industry, the dedicated bike-geeks at Goldstream Sports attended Trek World 2008, the in-house trade show for dealers to check out the next year's developments in bikes.

We got a peek at all the new goodies coming down the line next year, and boy are we excited. There's cool new bike models, cool new paintjobs on familiar models, a new saddle system from Bontrager and new apparel options form Trek to look forward to.

One World, Two Wheels

In addition to all the neat new products, we were treated to a first look at Trek's new bicycle advocacy program, One World, Two Wheels. With the goal of raising the percentage of total trips made by bike in the US from less than one percent up to five percent over the next ten years, the program puts the clout of the biggest bike maker in the US behind the network of folks like you and me who like bikes and want to see more people on them. Check out more at our website: http://goldstreamsports.com/Advocacy/index.htm

Also …

We've been playing in the dirt a lot lately, and we've got some neat bike trail projects coming into play down at the shop. The first new addition is our brand spankin' new pump-track on the east side of the shop. Inspired by BMX riding, the pump-track is a small circuit of endless rollers, letting the rider generate and maintain their momentum around (and around and around) the track. Come by and get inspired, or at least amused, by our antics.
