Green-up is here and it is time to get out on your bikes! Or, better still come and ride our bikes. We have the latest models from Trek and Gary Fisher and our rep, Wade, will be on-site on May 18, 19 and 20th to answer any questions you may have about the Trek, Fisher and LeMond lines. We will be having free test-rides of all the latest models, including a shuttle up Ester Dome, allowing you to try the bikes in real, off-road conditions. Also test ride the road bikes in the Goldstream Valley. We will have free bagels and cream cheese, and all test riders will receive a free water bottle. We will be open at our regular hours, so come on down and join in the fun.

Bike Demo - May 18, 19 and 20

Our Trek, Gary Fisher and LeMond rep, Wade, will be in the store during our Big Trek Bike Demo on May 18th to 20th. He will be here to answer any questions you may have about the entire Trek, Fisher and LeMond range. We will have bikes available for testing, and this doesn't mean just around the parking lot - Joel has a shuttle organized that will take mountain bikers up Ester Dome and let them ride the brand new bikes on the single-track trails. Every rider receives a free water bottle for their test ride, and anyone can enjoy fresh Lu Lu's bagels. Some of the bikes to test include the X Caliber, one of the lightest, fastest and smoothest rides around. This 29er is one of the favorites in the store. Come and see why. Another of the bikes is my personal favorite - the Gary Fisher Hi-Fi Deluxe. This bike has long travel in the rear suspension, is light on weight but it is heavy on fun. This bike is what we have been striving for in a full suspension bike. There is even a women's model in a very cool green color. There are also some Trek full suspension bikes, and some awesome road bikes including the Madone 5.0 and the Portland.

Tech Tip: When to replace brake pads

There are two main types of brakes in the cycling world: rim brakes and disk brakes. Rim brakes are those that stop the bike by applying pressure on the rim of your wheel, and disk brakes use a separate disk braking system. Knowing when to change your brakes is important, especially if you plan to stop. Disk brakes rarely need to be replaced, and only when problems arise should the cables be adjusted or the hydraulic oil be changed. Rim brakes on the other hand need to be kept under a watchful eye. When the brakes wear down there is an obvious loss of rubber, keep an eye on the grooves in the brake. When the grooves run out, it is time the change the pads. But another tell-tale sign is when you can see metal showing through the pad, this means a change it is way overdue. Look on the pad surface and if you see any metal filings, the metal from the brake is wearing into the wheel rim. Listen too; you can hear if the brakes are working well when there is little sound when the brakes are applied. If you hear metal on metal when you apply the brakes, it is a sure sign that you need to replace the pads. Old brakes may look good and healthy, but oxidization may have taken place which hardens the rubber and deems the brakes ineffective. If you are still unsure, bring the bike in and we will give you a free estimation of the life of your brakes.

Feature Item - Trek's Lime

Trek Lime

This bike is truely awesome. I could stop there, but let me tell you why. The Lime is not only a stylish bike, a comfort bike that oozes in the classic look, it is a highly engineered mechanical marvel. The nicest thing about this bike though - it is simple. Thats right! So simple in fact, it changes gears for you! This is the perfect bike for the person who likes to cruise the bike paths around Fairbanks, and is not into rushing everywhere. Sit back, relax and let the bike do the thinking for you. A small wheel generated computer monitors your speed and changes gears when you need it. Come in and try the Lime, it comes in stylish black and a very cool white with changeable chain covers. Come and see for yourself why this bike is awesome.
